Does it ever feel like you're cranking out blog post after blog post, trying alllll the content promotion strategies, and hardly seeing any blog traffic for all of your hard work?

I sure have!

One of the easiest mistakes to make as a blogger is to continuously pump out tons of content without really thinking about how you will share it and promote it.

I've definitely struggled with this as well, and I think it's important to keep in mind that creating brand new content should take a back seat to actually promoting your content.

When it comes to blog content, you should ideally be spending 80% of your time on promotion and just 20% on creation.

Shocking, right?

To be honest, I'm not even there yet. It's something I'm still working on and probably will be for a while.

So if you aren't there yet, don't worry! This is definitely a bit of a long-term process.

Creating A Content Promotion Plan

Let's talk about some things you can do to start promoting your content more heavily.

Keep in mind that in this post I'm going to detail several social media platforms for you to share your content on. I DON'T recommend that any blogger start posting to all of the social media platforms at once.

This is just a recipe for spreading yourself too thin and doing a mediocre job at all of them.

Instead, I recommend you choose ONE social media platform and really master it before moving on to a second one.

Jon Simpson said it best in his Forbes article when he said that your blog posts are essentially the hub of your website, where supporting social media posts, landing pages, and email campaigns tie the pieces together.

OK now that we got that out of the way, let's look at how you can start promoting your content effectively. This will help you bring in the maximum amount of traffic possible for the least amount of work!

#1. Share to your Pinterest boards to get quick traffic to your blog.

Pinterest is my number one recommendation for new bloggers who are trying to get traffic to their blogs.

It is hands down the easiest and fastest way to begin getting traffic, and it's free!

Adding a mix of your own pins and other people's pins to your boards is a great way to start getting eyeballs on your blog posts and other content.

Now I know I said that Pinterest is my favorite social media platform, but actually, Pinterest isn't social media at all!

It's a search engine, and that's why it is so powerful.

When you create boards that are based on keywords people are searching for, and fill them with great pins that are also keyworded in their titles and descriptions, you make it so much easier for people to find your pins and click through to your blog posts.

If I had to start all over, this would be the absolute first thing I would do to start getting traffic to my blog.

Why is Tailwind the Smartest Way to Share Your Pins?

Tailwind is the Pinterest scheduler I and most other bloggers use to share our pins, and there are some great reasons for that!

Here's why every blogger should be using Tailwind:

  1. Tailwind is the ONLY Pinterest-approved scheduler (meaning they work within Pinterest's rules, which is critical for long term success)
  2. Tailwind's algorithm knows the best times of day to share your pins, and will do that for you automatically. More traffic for you!
  3. Tailwind's SmartLoop feature will automatically re-share your most popular pins every few months so you keep reaping traffic from them for the long term.

#2. Share to Tailwind Tribes every day.

Once you have your Pinterest boards set up and have started creating several pins for each of your posts, the next thing I would do is join some Tailwind Tribes in your niche.

Tribes is such a cool feature!

If you aren't familiar with Tailwind, all you really need to know right now is that it is a Pinterest scheduler that helps you schedule posts on autopilot.

Probably the most impactful feature that Tailwind has is their Tribes feature. Tribes are essentially groups of pinners who share their own and each other's pins within a tribe.

The idea is that each Tribe member adds pins of their own to be shared by the group, and chooses pins from the group that they want to re-pin to their own boards in exchange.

When you find good boards that are active, relevant to your niche, and have quality pinners within the group, stick with them! This is a phenomenal way to grow your traffic.

At the time of this writing, I currently receive about 80% of my traffic from Tailwind Tribes. So you can see that it's something I just wouldn't go without!

You can sign up for a Tailwind account here and get immediate access to hundreds of Tribes to help share your blog.

#3. Leverage your Facebook group to send readers back to your posts.

If you have your own Facebook group, great! This is an easy way to drive traffic back to your blog and keep your blog front of mind for your readers.

Not only does your Facebook group provide a place for your readers to congregate and talk to each other, but it also (hopefully!) gives them regular reminders of new content you have available and any freebies you've created.

Engaging in the conversation, answering questions, and providing well rounded posts within the group helps you create a real community around your blog.

#4. Become a leading contributor in other's Facebook groups.

Another way to get a bit of extra traffic each day is to also add links to your posts in other people's Facebook groups. Of course, many Facebook groups don't allow this so you really need to check the rules in advance!

Thankfully, some of them do as long as it is done tastefully.

Here are a few tips for getting traffic and keeping yourself in good standing with your Facebook groups.

  1. Don't post a groups where it isn't allowed. This might get you booted, and really doesn't look good on your reputation.

  2. Make sure to provide thoughtful answers to people's questions in addition to posting your blog post link. Don't just drop the link and run!

  3. Don't add a blog post link to every response you give. Try to be as genuine and generous as possible with your responses, and only include a blog post-link if it will really help the original poster out.

One thing to keep in mind is that building traffic through Facebook groups is sort of like a snowball rolling down hill.

In the beginning, you probably won't get more than a couple of clicks. But if you make this part of your long-term strategy, the number of links really add up.

On top of that, most Facebook groups will also grow in size which gives you more people searching through Facebook threads to get answers to their questions.

My best advice with Facebook groups is to be consistent and genuine and really join the community for the long term.

This might take a few months in the beginning as you figure out which groups are a good fit for you!

#5. Find your community on Reddit and grow your blog traffic.

One place I haven't really dived into yet as far as traffic goes is Reddit. Reddit is one of the biggest online communities in the world, and is made up of thousands of subreddits each with their own topic.

While many subreddits do not allow any self-promotion or linking, some of them do and this can be a great way to tap into your community of ideal readers.

I will say, though, that Redditors tend to be very sensitive to any form of self-promotion. Be sure to check the rules in advance, and be extremely helpful with your posts.

Don't just drop a link and leave. Transformation stories and in-depth how-to's that really help the readers tend to get a much more positive response.

#6. Entice your Instagram followers to check out your blog as well.

While Instagram isn't known for being a super easy way to drive lots of traffic to your blog, it IS a great place to really build your brand. That starts with photos of you and your life that help people connect with your brand and business.

One simple way to start encouraging Instagrammers to click over to your website is to include a link to your website in your bio.

Instagram doesn't allow for a way to include links directly into a post, but you can tell people within the caption to click the link in your bio.

If you'd like to start promoting blog posts and freebies, simply change the link in your bio. You can do this every day that you upload a photo to reflect the call to action you are asking them to take in your caption for that day.

Many bloggers will change this link daily or weekly depending on what their call to action is.

How to promote your content within your Instagram bio:

  1. Link to blog post
  2. Link to optim freebie
  3. Affiliate link
  4. Link to your Facebook group
  5. Link to your Pinterest account
  6. Link to product sales and promotions

#7. Leverage your email list to get more eyes on your blog posts.

Are you using your email list to drive traffic back to your blog post? If not, you're seriously missing out!

Now you might be wondering, why the heck would I want email subscribers to click back to my blog? They're already on my email list!

Well, there are a few reasons.

A) You want engagement to be high on your blog.

Having your readers go back to your posts over and over helps them to start to see you as an expert on whatever it is that you blog about.

It also creates a habit for them to go to YOU for answers, which can be useful down the road as you try to build your own Facebook groups and sell your own products.

B) Reuse and Repurpose

Another reason to point your email list back to your blog post is simply as a great way to reuse your content. Not everything you write needs to be completely original! (Well, it needs to be original to YOU.)

But using your new blog posts as a means to send another useful email to your list is a great way to continue building the relationship and show them that you have useful things to offer them.

C) Drive Affiliate Sales

The last reason you should be sure to share your new post with your list is to help drive affiliate sales.

If you have affiliate links placed on your blog posts, the more people who read the post the better! Not to mention, people who already like, know, and trust you (like those on your email list) are more likely than cold readers to purchase through your affiliate links.

This should be a natural and genuine process where you only share products you personally use and love and think would be a great fit for your reader.
