7 Things to Do If You're Serious About Blogging for Money

Less than 10% of bloggers ever actually make money from their blogs.
Let that sink in.
Of course, not everyone wants to make money blogging. There are plenty of hobby bloggers who do it just for fun and like it that way.
But what if you DO want to make money from your blog?
What if you need a little extra side hustle income each month? Or what if you want to quit your 9 to 5 and become fully self-employed?
What if you really want to become financially independent so you can travel the world and stay home with your kids?
If that's you, you need to get crazy serious about blogging. No more messing around, no more trying to DIY everything.
You've got to drill down and create the most efficient and effective way to make money from your blog with the least amount of time and effort.
And I don't say that to insinuate that you could or should try to earn a living blogging while only working a tiny amount. I promise you that's not going to happen, at least not in the beginning.
No, I say that because you can spend actual years trying to filter through all the garbage information out there, trying to come up with a solid monetization plan for your blog, and end up not having much to show for it if you don't know what you are doing.
That was me! And I don't want it to be you too.
So are you ready to get crazy serious about creating blogging income? Let's get started.
1. Actually Start Your Blog!
If you don't have a blog yet, but you've been thinking about it for a while, now is the time to actually start the darn thing and be on your merry way.
Seriously. You need to start.
No more waiting for the right time, or waiting until you have the perfect plan in place.
Your plans will change, you'll continue to learn new information, and you'll adapt your strategies as time goes on.
That's why you need to get started TODAY.

2. Get Real Traffic from Pinterest
Step 2 is to start getting some serious traffic to your blog. Because after all, without traffic you don't have a business.
Pinterest is by far the fastest and easiest way for new bloggers (and pretty much all bloggers!) to get traffic flowing in.
Traffic is the lifeblood of your business.
Here's why.

This is the big "secret" to making money blogging.
Traffic comes in, and a portion of them sign up for your email list through your opt in form. Then you contact your email list regularly, and a portion of those subscribers buy whatever you have for sale.
This is why your income potential with your blog is so darn dependent on the quality and quantity of your traffic.
For me personally, I saw a huge boost in traffic after taking the Pinterest Traffic Avalanche course. This, of course, increased my income significantly.
3. Set Daily Work Hours
Right now you're probably thinking that the biggest threat to your blog's success is your level of knowledge.
It's not.
Lack of productivity is by far the number one biggest threat to your business.
There are tons and tons of bloggers out there who have all of the knowledge and tools to build six-figure blogs.
Want to know why they don't?
Because they can't get shit done.
Sorry to be so crass, but it's true.
We all struggle with productivity and procrastination to some extent, but it's the people who are able to execute day in and day out who rise to the top.
If you can't execute, the rest is futile.
My biggest recommendation for bloggers is to set daily work hours.
Whether that's early in the morning, or after you come home at night, or spread out in different chunks throughout the day, setting dedicated work hours is the first step to getting things done.
For me, I have stay-at-home mom hours. My schedule really revolves around my little one, so I work during nap time and early in the morning before he wakes up.
So set your work hours, and start each day by working on your single most important task.
Doing just these two things will increase your business success so much.
4. Start Your Email List Today, Even If You Have Nothing to Sell
One of the biggest regrets I hear bloggers say over and over again is that they didn't start their email list soon enough.
Even if you don't have anything to sell, you can still start collecting email addresses to save for later. And you should!
Having an email list is pretty much the best monetization method you can use to make money from your blog.
I use Convertkit to manage all of my email sequences, and I'm so glad it exists. Convertkit was made by a blogger who couldn't find an email service with all of the functions bloggers need, so he created his own!
Set it up now, and it will be ready for you when you need it. You'll thank me later.
You can read more about setting up Convertkit in my complete guide to creating a profitable blog here. (Just scroll halfway down the page!)
5. Plan Your Monetization Strategy
I'm going to be really honest with you here.
If you've never made money from a blog before, you're going to need to get some professional advice from people who have been there.
This was a hard lesson for me to learn when I was just starting out.
I tried to do everything myself. I thought I could learn everything for free by searching around on Google and Pinterest.
And you know what?
I wasted YEARS with a blog that could have, but didn't, earn me a full time income. Ouch.
Don't be me. It's not worth the wasted time and frustration.
After dinking around for so long, I decided to get really serious about blogging and took Alex & Lauren Nerney's Six Figure Blogger course.
It was hands down the smartest decision I have ever made.
If you're serious about making an income from your blog this year, I highly recommend checking out this course.
7. Offer Something For Sale
This might seem obvious, but you would be surprised how many bloggers lament their blogs not making any money, when it turns out that they don't actually have anything for sale yet!
If you've got some traffic coming in, and you're building your email list, you need to offer something for sale!
It could be a product you created, or it could be a product someone else created that you are an affiliate for. It could even be ads or sponsored posts!
