Get Serious About Pinterest for Blog Traffic

I know I've beaten this horse to death, but Pinterest is still so useful and relevant! If you aren't using it yet, or you aren't using it to its full potential, you are leaving some serious traffic on the table.

I put this tip as number one on this list, because I feel that Pinterest is likely the easiest way you can double your traffic next year. So how exactly do you do it right? Here are a few of my favorite tips.

1. Put Out More Pins Each Day

How many of your own pins that you created are you adding to Pinterest each day? If your answer is less than 5, you will definitely see your traffic go up simply by adding more.

Sure, this task isn't always easy. It does take some effort to create a handful of pins each day for Pinterest. Maybe this is something you could consider hiring out to save you time.

Either way, Pinterest LOVES to get new pins and my traffic always go up when I increase the number of new ones I am uploading.

2. Use Pinterest SEO to Get More Blog Traffic

If you aren't using keywords pretty much everywhere on Pinterest, you are leaving a lot of traffic on the table. In essence, you should be using keywords on:

  • The pin itself
  • The description
  • The title
  • The board
  • The board description
  • The block title that links to the pin

Are you surprised?

The truth is that Pinterest is much more of a search engine than a social media platform. It relies heavily on keywording to help decide which pins to show people.

That means that it is your job to use keywords to your advantage. Help Pinterest out! Help them figure out who needs to see your pin, and you’ll see traffic to your blog in return.

Start a YouTube Channel

I haven't started a YouTube channel yet, so I'm really going off of others experiences that I've read about or heard about on various business podcasts.

From everything I gather, video is becoming more important than ever and creating a YouTube channel is a great way to double your blog traffic in 2020. Of course, this plan isn't easy either.

Creating a successful YouTube channel takes consistency, good YouTube SEO, and engaging content.

That being said, it's still a platform that has so much room for new content producers, which can really help you get more traffic back to your blog. The important thing to remember here is that you need to have a way to move your YouTube subscribers and watchers back to your blog.

If you can have a plan for this, growing your audience is a no-brainer.

There is a secondary benefit to starting a YouTube channel as well, and that is the aspect of credibility.

Showing up on video where people can see your face and hear your voice gives you so much more credibility than your competitors who may just have a blog. There's just something about being able to see and hear someone that makes you feel connected to them and trust them.

So not only will you very likely grow your blog traffic with YouTube, you will also likely create a much deeper connection with your readers which may translate to more sales down the road.

Become a Guest on Related Podcasts

Guest blogging used to be the big thing, the tactic everyone was using to get tons of new traffic and links. After a few years though, guest blogging became common place and Google stopped giving so much juice to backlinks created from guest posting.

Now, it seems that there is a new player on the block, and that is guest podcasting.

Podcasting overall is still relatively new, and data shows that they are extremely popular with people under 35. I personally love podcasts and listen to a number of them every week.I can also think of several times when I checked out a guest website after hearing their interview.

The cool thing about podcasting it is that it is truly a win-win situation. Hosts are looking for a knowledgeable, helpful guest to bring fresh content to their show, and guests are looking for a platform of listeners to hear what they have to say.

Try Creating Social Media Ads for Blog Traffic

While creating ads and managing them isn't for the faint of heart, ff you get good at it you may find that advertising your blog is one of the fastest ways to double your traffic.

Facebook ads and Pinterest promoted pins are hot right now, and many people are seeing excellent growth and leverage from using them. Instagram ads are new as well, and might be something to try out if you have a strong Instagram presence already.

You may need to plan to invest a few hundred dollars in learning the ropes through trial and error. You really need to get the right image, description and platform combination to get a successful ad that makes you more money than it costs to you.

I learned a lot of this through taking Bobby Hoyt's Facebook Ads for Bloggers course earlier this year. It's quite comprehensive, and shows you exactly how to create successful ads for as little as $1 per day. If learning how to run successful Facebook ads will be a key component to getting more blog traffic in sales, I recommend checking out his course.

Conclusion

If you want to double your blog traffic in the next year, your best bet is to focus on ranking within the search engines and getting exposure through other people's audiences.

Here are the ideas I plan to focus on in the next 12 months:

  • Getting serious about Pinterest traffic
  • Starting a Youtube channel
  • Become a guest on related podcasts
  • Try creating ads on social media platforms like Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram
